Geospatial Information

Geography as a connective dimension

Voyager was built with deep roots in geospatial information retrieval.

The platform treats geography as a way to connect information rather than as a separate silo. Spatial information can be indexed and discovered alongside documents, databases, records, services, and other non-spatial information.

Work with spatial and non-spatial information together

Different kinds of information describe location in different ways.

Some sources contain explicit geometry. Others contain coordinates, place names, imagery, spatial metadata, or text that can be associated with geographic context.

Voyager can use indexed spatial information alon gside textual and metadata fields so users and applications can discover information through both location and descriptive context.

Extract and derive spatial context

Depending on the source, format, extractor, pipeline, and configuration, Voyager processing can work with geometry and other spatial properties and may derive additional spatial information for indexing and search.

The exact extraction behavior varies by format and deployment. A format being registered in Voyager does not by itself mean every possible spatial property has been fully tested or extracted for that format.

Distributed geospatial environments

Geospatial information is often spread across file shares, GIS systems, imagery repositories, object stores, databases, services, and operational environments.

Voyager Indexing Agents can be distributed closer to source information, helping organizations build a common discovery layer without requiring all authoritative spatial content to be placed into a single repository.

More than a map viewer

Voyager's role is broader than displaying geospatial information on a map.

The platform is designed to discover, describe, enrich, index, secure, search, and expose information for people and systems. Geospatial context is part of that broader information model.
